NiLu Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information NiLu collects and stores during the beta and why that information is needed to operate the service.

1. Information we collect

When you create an account and use NiLu, we may store your full name, username, phone number, member ID, account type and account status. Depending on how you use the service, we may also store a profile photo you choose to upload, pet photos, pet profile information, caregiver profile information, availability, prices, requests, bookings, chat messages, care or meeting locations, instructions, notifications and reviews.

2. Photos and visibility

A profile photo or pet photo you choose to upload may be shown in relevant parts of the service. For example, a user photo may appear on a profile and in a conversation with another participant, while a pet photo may appear on the pet profile, a booking, or a related conversation. Do not upload images you do not have permission to use.

3. Passwords

NiLu does not store your password as readable text. Passwords are securely hashed using bcrypt, and only the resulting hash is stored.

4. Why we use the information

We use this information to create and manage accounts, display profiles and photos, match pet owners with caregivers, manage requests and bookings, provide messaging and chat, send notifications, handle reviews, support safety, prevent abuse, and operate and improve the service.

5. Storage and infrastructure providers

NiLu uses cloud and infrastructure providers to operate the website and store data, including MongoDB Atlas and Vercel. Photos uploaded during the beta may be stored in NiLu's MongoDB data infrastructure. As a result, information may be processed or stored outside Israel depending on the infrastructure used.

6. Sharing information

NiLu is not intended to sell personal information. Information may be accessible to infrastructure providers required to operate the service and to other users only where necessary for the service. Caregiver profile photos may appear in the public caregiver directory, while chat photos are shown to authorized participants in that conversation.

7. Retention and account deletion

We retain information for as long as needed to operate the account and service and for relevant safety, record-keeping and legal purposes. Replacing a profile or pet photo replaces the reference to the previous image, and the system attempts to remove the previous image file. During the beta, you may contact us to request access, correction or deletion of your information and account.

8. Beta and changes

NiLu is currently in beta. If we add features such as payments, additional location services, or additional media features, this policy will be updated accordingly.

This document is intended as a practical privacy policy for the NiLu beta and is not a substitute for legal advice.
